Escape From Pompeii

We were visited by friends from Helsinki. One of the most proven methods of entertaining visitors is to take them on a visit to the Maritime Centre Vellamo here in the city of Kotka.

In the photos you see a series of images that lead to the museum's exhibition about the city of Pompeii. All pics are taken with my cell phone, and I recommend you visit Vellamo when you are in town.

The exhibition will be on display from 31 March to 1 October 2023. It tells of the destruction of the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum as well as the everyday lives and fates of their residents. The exhibition also highlights the rarely told story of a daring sea rescue and attempt to save the cities’ residents from massive destruction when the volcano Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD.
